A School with a Vision for Inclusive Learning

Cury School, part of the Special Partnership Trust and a satellite provision of Nancealverne School, supports primary-aged pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs are the primary focus. The school is a beacon for inclusive education in the South West, setting new standards for specialist provision and holistic development.

Designing for Life Skills and Social Growth

We were tasked with creating a space that goes beyond a traditional school kitchen—one that supports both professional catering and student learning. The result is a dual-purpose environment: a commercial kitchen for staff-led operations, and a domestic-style training kitchen where small groups of learners can engage in food preparation as part of their academic and emotional development. This hands-on approach helps pupils build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

A School with a Vision for Inclusive Learning

To bridge functionality and familiarity, we designed the training kitchen with domestic appliances—mirroring a home environment—but constructed in stainless steel to withstand the demands of a busy school. A central kitchen pass/servery provides a clear, compliant separation between staff and student activities. Open since January 2025, this project was made possible through the collaboration of TEC Construction and Cunningham Taylor Surveyors, and we’re proud to have delivered a space that truly supports learning through doing.
