Sheppy’s Cider Farm

We were privileged to work with the Sheppy’s Cider Team on their main Kitchen, Bar area and external fridge and freezers in 2016/2017.  So we jumped at the chance to help when they needed to add an additional Production kitchen.

the new production area

The additional production area consisted of a 10-grid Rational Combi oven, Freestanding Fryer, Heated display unit and Work Tables.  In addition to the Production area we installed a wash area with Sink units, a Pre-Rinse system and Wall cladding.

The most noteworthy Unit of this project was The Hobart 4 Zone Electric Solid Top, this top kicks out temperatures of over 400 plus if you need them to.  Sheppy’s were looking for something that was electric only and could take the sheer size and volume of their stockpots, so therefore this unit was the answer.

Sheppy’s Cider has been at Bradford-on-Tone since the family moved there in 1917, and the name and location have been a fixed point in the lives of local people and holiday makers ever since.

Although they focus primarily on perfecting cider, they know that it’s just as important to make sure that people can visit the very place that they produce the cider from.

They ferment their ciders using the naturally occurring wild yeast from the apples. They then mature some of them in oak vats, many of which have been in the family for almost 100 years. David Sheppy, Their Master of Cider, has developed his skills over a lifetime blending dessert apples with cider varieties to give Sheppy’s Cider its distinctive, high quality taste.

This is an amazing piece of equipment and it really does the job”.

I have worked with Allsop & Pitts for many years but have never had the opportunity to use the kitchen design and install service they provide, until recently whilst developing Sheppy’s House of Cider & Fine foods. I have been working very closely with Lorraine Christie who planned the initial design. Our site definitely had limitations, but because of Lorraine’s commitment and attention to detail, it was always possible to overcome them.

I would like to personally thank Lorraine and everyone who worked with me to produce not only the catering kitchen but many other aspects of the development, including equipment for the bar and café areas.
