St.Loyes Extra Care

Delivering bulky, heavy and irregular shaped catering equipment can prove a challenge into some buildings and St.Loyes is a very particular case in point.

St.Loyes is a multi-storey building currently under construction in the heart of Exeter and on the 4th floor there is to be a fully equipped commercial kitchen that will produce and serve meals to future residents of the Extra Care facility for Exeter City Council.

How to get equipment and fabrication including a bespoke extraction canopy into place with no access via an internal staircase or lift was something that took careful planning and execution with the full co-operation of the Kier Construction Site Team.

The only solution was to use the crane which Kier had installed to aid the construction of the whole building. Allsop and Pitts provided dimensions, weights, photos and drawings of every item that needed delivery to ensure that the crane operator was fully informed prior to lifting from the ground onto an open deck on the 4th floor. On the day our delivery team loaded equipment onto pallets, the Kier Team strapped them to the crane and on the 4th floor our Installation Team transferred all items into the kitchen ready for installation.

Planning & Co-operation

There is no doubt that a sunny, dry and relatively still Autumn day helped but it was really through the planning and co-operation that the lift went smoothly and the kitchen will be up and running when the building is handed over in March 2021.
