From Gas to Cutting-Edge: A Kitchen Reimagined

We first installed the Training Kitchen in Exeter College’s Laurence Building in 2008. In 2024, curriculum changes sparked a major update. While much of the original setup stayed, one key area was transformed—combining two rooms into a larger, all-electric kitchen with energy-saving tech and industry-standard equipment to better reflect today’s professional kitchens.

Smart Design, Maximum Impact

The kitchen was built for 16 students, each with a 4-zone induction hob, worktop, shared oven, fridge drawers, sink, and salamander grill. A fully equipped Chef Lecturer Station mirrored the setup, with a 10-grid combi oven shared by all.

To fit the tight space, we designed four double-sided and one single-sided suite. A custom ventilation system—with canopies over each suite and ceiling louvre supply—was expertly threaded through a maze of low-ceiling services.

Power, Precision, and a Pop of Colour!

Delivering robust, reliable equipment within a tight budget and compact layout was a challenge in both design and product selection. Blue Seal Waldorf met every requirement—offering durability, flexibility, and standout looks in the Catering Faculty’s chosen Fire Red finish.

Built on the proven Evolution platform, the suite features bespoke kickstrips, trims, end panels, and service covers—giving a premium feel with the flexibility to reconfigure if needed. At the client’s request, Allsop & Pitts added custom Blue Seal sink units, salamander supports, and pan racks to complete the setup.
